The Leadership Birmingham Members Association hosted 5 events with over 400 attendees this year:

  • Author and social psychologist Kurt Gray spoke at Red Mountain Theater about his book Outraged: Why We Fight About Morality and Politics and How to Find Common Ground. This event was a partnership with The Community Foundation and Alabama Humanities Alliance.
  • Opening Retreat Breakfast “What’s New What’s Next” with Ed Fields, Michele Kong, Sid Evans, and Chad Scroggins at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
  • Civil Rights Panel as part of the Class of 2026’s One Community Day with Odessa Woolfolk, Dick Pizitz, and Janice Kelsey at 16th Street Baptist Church.
  • Lunch at Bottega with Carl Green in conversation with journalist and Class of 2026 member Priska Neely. Thanks to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, EBSCO Industries, Barvette and Michael Patterson, and Atlas Senior Living.
  • Medical Meet Ups, hosted by ProAssurance at the Birmingham Barons
  • Reunions for the classes of 2013, 2020, 2023, 2025

 

The Summer 2025 issue of Leadership Birmingham Magazine was titled Sanctuary for Change and featured a story about the 16th Street Baptist Church and its long-standing site of inspiration for Leadership Birmingham and Youth Leadership Birmingham class members. Other stories included the legacy of Mimi Tynes, moments of impact from last year’s class, and lessons learned.

 

 

The Spring 2026 issue of Leadership Birmingham Magazine was titled Birmingham, New York, Hollywood, and Home Again and featured Sam DiPiazza, Jr. (’86), chairman of Warner Brothers Discovery and Birmingham native. It also includes a nice feature of LB graduates across the nation, and Brian Hamilton (YLB ’97 and LB’09) and his family, including son Brayden, a YLB 2025 graduate.
