Nominations

Leadership Birmingham nominations are accepted year-round. All nominees submitted by February 3rd, 2025 will be invited to apply for the class that begins in September of 2025. All applications will be due on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Leadership Birmingham class members are selected based on their leadership abilities, career accomplishments, volunteer activities, contributions to the community, and commitment to help shape a better Greater Birmingham. Because the program is limited in size, many qualified individuals must be deferred. Those not accepted in a given year have the opportunity to be considered for the subsequent year.

Candidates for nomination should:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to community through past and present activities
  • Demonstrate leadership ability through significant achievement
  • Serve in a position of senior leadership
  • Possess the ability to exercise substantial leadership in the future
  • Exhibit a personal commitment to help shape the future of the Birmingham region

Each Leadership Birmingham class is made up of leaders from diverse professions. The program is highly competitive: each year, there are many more applicants than there are spaces. Since the program is limited in size, qualified individuals must be deferred each year. It is not unusual for a candidate to apply multiple times before acceptance.

Those not accepted in any given year have the opportunity to be considered for the subsequent year. All applications are carefully and thoughtfully reviewed by a group of Leadership Birmingham alumni who are tasked with selecting a representative cross-section of leaders for a Leadership Birmingham class.

Nominators should:

  • Be an alumnus of Leadership Birmingham
  • Be unrelated to the nominee
  • Have a conversation with the candidate about Leadership Birmingham before submitting a nomination. Leadership Birmingham is a commitment of time and attention.

Letters of support for a candidate are not required, but they can be submitted to the executive director via mail or email. Please, no more than three letters of support.

Leadership Birmingham does not discriminate because of race, color, national origin, age, disability, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
